This book documents the design process of creating my senior degree project, called The Wilder Coast Magazine. It was created in my final semester at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2011. The final abstract for this project is as follows:
The Wilder Coast Magazine is a paid circulation magazine that is available in both print and through the iPad. The main goal of the project is to explore how to make the printed magazine more than what has already been done, and to explore the iPad magazine possibilities.
The first unique aspect of the magazine is that it is not tailored to one outdoor sport. There are already magazines out there catered to rock climbing, kayaking, camping, or travel. What I did was combine all of those things (and an infinite list of outdoor sports and activities).
Through incorporating qr codes as well as adjusting the size to 6⅛” × 8½”, I better serve my audience who desire to travel light. The magazine size I determined by fmeasuring proportionsa that fit easily into a Camelbak©. The connect department section is for social networking, where readers can upload photos to specific articles. showcase where they are, give feedback or send The Wilder Coast a letter.
