A motion graphics project for Digital Design Studio 271 unit in Curtin University.

 

Overall Goal:

This video is to promote a book that is a compilation of ghost stories in Philippine folklore, highlighting The Nun in the Toilet story.

 

Concept:

The main idea is to instil suspense and thrill to the audience in 40 secs. The art style, sound, typography, animation and camera movement should all add to the horror and suspense. To be able to promote a scary book, the video should convincingly reflect the dark, mysterious and horror genre of the book.

 

Treatment:

The art style is minimalist, black & white, hand drawn pencil illustration to create a dark, grunge and rough feel. The typography is hand written, rounded and childish, faded or stained, like it was written a long time ago with smokey/bleed typography effect to add mystery. Camera movement will be slow paced at first to gradually create suspense. The sound track is a creepy piano instrumental with high notes that gives a really suspenseful, slow sound and then gradually increases tempo to heighten the development of the story.
