The Raid Sound Design
Independent StudyWinter 2012Primary Software: Pro Tools
The creation and use of sound and
video is something I have recently taken more of an interest to in the audio
industry. When I was assigned an independent study, the trailer for The Raid was something ideal to re-create
the sounds for. This film has an action packed trailer with plenty of
opportuSequences with lots of action scenes are rich with different kinds of sound design elements, many at the same time. For this project, I chose to replace the audio for the trailer of "The Raid". Upon viewing the trailer for the first time, there was no sound design for it, only music set to the video. This is what inspired me to chose this trailer for my independent study, the fact that it needed sound effects. There is lots of hand-to-hand combat, explosions, and gunfights present that required precise editing in Pro Tools. I used a variety of found sounds from libraries, and also ones that were unique enough to warrant me recording Foley myself. This created a rich mixture of sounds that stay true to the high level of action present. The only audio I used from the original trailer was the music bed, which lies underneath the more prominent sound design in my final mix.
