The ObserverThis was my final work of thesis for the IED Milan's CG Animation Course.
The project was made with a friend and classmate of mine Vittorio Barabani. We developed the idea during the first half of the final year, but the actual production started in April 2012.
The observer is a short movie about a young journalist in the search for a mysterious character, and a final close look at the life of the character itself.
The project was quite new to the usual thesis at my school. We decided to shoot the live footage in London, and then recreate the environment in 3D to finally texture it with 32Bit HDR images in The Foundry's Mari we took at the locations.
Then we created the character and the full 3d environments.
Since it was a quite huge amount of work, and there were only two of us, we split almost every task during the production. Even so I did the rigging (I will get to it below with a video), texturing and shading of the character. The lighting, real footage animation and most of the compositing was done by Vittorio, but at the end we both did modeling, rendering, compositing since we were short of time.
Nevertheless we were happy with the end result, even if we did not had skills in video editing (so for the most of the real footage the rythym is note quite good).
All the sound effects were made by my brother Stefano Pizzaia (he currently owns a Music Studio called Epia Estudios, so if you're interested check out his facebook page in the link before)
