A warm welcome to the new Kensington Palace

Following a two year, £12million refurbishment, Kensington Palace re-opened to the public on 26 March 2012. We were lucky enough to be involved in the project right from the start, helping prepare the submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2008.

For a long time, Kensington Palace has been something of a hidden gem. On the edge of Hyde Park, the palace hid behind high cast iron fences and impenetrable bushes and shrubs. Many people walked passed 50 feet from its front door without even knowing it was there.

Throughout the refurbishment process the vision has been to open the palace and its gardens to everyone – from local residents, to overseas visitors in London for only a few days. Its safe to say this vision has been realised and the public have instantly taken to their new palace.

The main image of the palace was taken on a bitterly cold morning in February, when the palace was still several months from completion. Clearly a little retouching was to be called for:
