  • The Moguls (Stalker) & Let Alone A Planet (Solaris)
Paintings influenced by the films of Andrei Tarkovsky
  • I created two paintings early this year, Commissioned by Mitch Putnam for Mondo Gallery's grand opening exhibition in Austin, TX of March '12. The psychologically viscous nature of Tarkovsky's Artistic vision made for a stimulating process of iteration.

  • Prelim sketch for Stalker
  • Prelim sketch for Solaris

In both films, an object (planet or terrain) is a placeholder for the larger Idea. The intention behind drafting a painting isn't to dictate the final appearance, the sketches merely open a dialog.

  • Work surface, pre-pigmentation

Tangibility of the working surface plays an increasingly important role in my work. Layering, texturizing and working out flaws directly on the painting surface becomes part of my own understanding of the concept.
