First image of a four part series based on a Native American folktale. I referenced Hopi Kachina dolls to reference some aspects of Native American culture and featured Tawa, the Sun, as one of my most prominent characters.
The son of the Sun ascends the sky by shooting arrows into it.
For the second image I chose to depict the part of the folktale where the boy asks the Sun to carry the torches. Redesigned the Sun's character to make the Tawa Kachina reference more abstract and visually stimulating.
This illustration depicts the moment in the folktale where the trees catch on fire and the mother saves the villagers by covering them with her blanket.
