The Making Of Calamity Katie

The Making Of Calamity Katie
How this monster was made in Zbrush and Modo
The original concept for this character dates back to 2006 when I made a digital painting of her. Now that I am working in 3D and aiming for a hand-made look to me work, I wanted to recreate a new improved version of her.
The Concept sketch was painted in Photoshop.
I started with the torso, then the arms and hands, these were made very quickly with Zspheres in Zbrush.
Then in Modo I created a very simple base mesh for the head, just to create the underlying topology. I didn't worry about the shape at this point because I knew I would edit that more easily back in Zbrush
Then I sculpted the basic head mesh back in Zbrush, and then subdivided it to create the high-res details.
Then I sculpted the high-res details, and polypainted the texture, all in Zbrush.
The shirt was created in Marvellous Designer, which provided the cloth simulation to drape the fabric over the character.
Then on to creating the teeth and hair and do some texture and lighting tests.
A clay render:
Finally each light was rendered in a separate pass and then all of the passes were composited in Photoshop. I added some specular bloom, some chromatic aberration and some texture in post.
