The Lion and Me
- The Lion and Me
A self generated children's book. - This children's book is my final major project of my Foundation Diploma. It was a six week project and I had to first come up with a story and then draw illustrations for all 32 pages. I mixed various techniques for my images digitally, but all the basics where done as pencil drawings in a dummy book first. I created various textures from lithography, screen-printing, watercolour and acrylics.
Some of my research took place in the Barbier-Mueller museum in Geneva, which currently exhibits masks from all around the world.
This is one of the characters in the story, which is based on one of the masks I saw in the museum.
A double spread in which I have used customized typography.
A double spread of the book. I mixed photography, vector illustration and handmade, scanned in textures.
A double spread that needs to be held sideways.
Another double spread with almost all the characters on one page. The background was done in acrylics, the lion with watercolour and the masked characters are vector illustrations.
The printed book. The book was printed at a local printer and then hand bound by me.
