I am happy to be part of DACS United and support such a great cause.
‘Designers Against Child Slavery is a Design Collective that enables creatives from all over the world to rise up against the sex trade. We want to see how effective artists can be when they start breaking the boundaries of culture, race, religion, and backgrounds to unite for a just cause, and use their unique styles and talents to give a voice to the voiceless. We are a group of artists with a passion for making a difference in our world. We leverage our unique gifts and styles to produce artwork, to raise awareness of the injustice of sex trafficking and inspiring others to use their talents to impact the world around us.’
BriefFor the most recent episode, which goes online at September 15, DACS asked its artist to illustrate the story of a misfortune girl. ‘Artists illustrating the corrosion episode, will create a piece that reflects a girl being sold, tricked, or kidnapped into the sex trade. Key concepts for a Coercion centered piece- Kidnapping, tricking or being sold.’
SolutionThe brief itself was very emotional, so it was oblivious to create something very soulful. My digital painting of a girl is very simple, yet very complicated. I only used a few colours and only emphasized some parts of her face such as her eyes and lips, while I left other parts for example her hair without details. I wanted people to look into her eyes and feel all the emotions, the pain, sadness and hopelessness. In my opinion the piece communicates all these emotions beautifully and leaves the viewer thinking.
