The Knowledge Sculpture
Golden Jubilee Commemorative Sculpture,National Institute of Technology Calicut. My design for a sculpture themed on "knowledge" is selected to be constructed at the center circle, Rajpath (Hindi: राजपथ; meaning "King's Way") of NITC Campus. The design was inspired from the natural beauty of the campus and its mission statement.
- Educational Institute: The sculpture represents the form of an Indian lamp to embody that institution imparts knowledge just like the lamp radiated light.Research Institute: Arcs of steel epitomize strength as well as dynamism. Each arcrepresents an orbiting electron. The collection of arcs positioned at angles mimic a galaxy with faster rotating center. The arcs give the illusion of the sculpture rotating in anattempt to epiphanize striking patterns of the universe.Center of Excellence: The base is a partially burried granite hemisphere with an engraved world map with India, and Calicut in the center. This symbolizes of NIT Calicut’s journey in Academics, R&D and as a centre of excellence for the past five decades.Educational Institute: The sculpture represents the form of an Indian lamp to embody that institution imparts knowledge just like the lamp radiated light.Research Institute: Arcs of steel epitomize strength as well as dynamism. The circle shape, suggests man’s connection with nature and proclaims the need for sustainable technological development; important for the next 50 years.
