The Indubitably Inscrutable Mr. Owlingsworth

    Characters that I don't know what to do with...
  • More doodling this week, in between having just gotten a job at a local design firm, and juggling a few freelance things as well. This ‘Indubitably Inscrutable Mr. Owlingsworth’ as I have come to call him began as a sketch (not seen here) of a tall man, with a tall hat, walking through a dark wood armed to the hilt with a musket, an axe, a sword and a lantern. I have no idea where that original character came from, but the iteration you see here is a more fully developed character. I believe his owl’s name shall be ‘Chesterton.’ This character may turn out to be the perfect foil for our ‘Fox Face Fox,’ although I had not set out to create a foil for him. It seems I can never just draw. When I do sit to draw, 9 times out of 10 it turns out that there’s a more fully developed character trying to jump out of my pen and onto the page. Perhaps it’s because I love character design, or that I am a story teller at heart. I don’t know, but there it is. I always get way more involved with a single drawing than I intend to…
