The House project was a term long design studio for B2. Our group was assigned a hypothetical site (an urban square) and we were each assigned a lot upon which to build. The footprint of each house was only 24' x32'. As a group we planned our tiny city's building codes and by-laws, creating restrictions for ourselves that would would force the overall design of the site into some cohesion and unity. Then, working within these rules, we individually set about the design of our house.
Of the 60 projects in the class, mine was the only project to design a house for a family. Safety, privacy, and day-to-day functionality became major design motivators. The design uses the vertical circulation as a procession, with views, resting spots and destinations carefully planned to suit the needs of the hypothetical family of four.
