The Hear Me Project
The Voices of Homelessness
I want to use design to make a difference. This drive inspired me to start the Hear Me Project. I went to the local homeless shelter and asked guests staying there one question. "If you could say one thing about homelessness, what would you say?" I then had everyone write their response on pieces of cardboard as I photographed everyone. I had everyone use their sign to cover their face. This gave a sense of anonymity, and stresses the fact that anyone can be homeless and it can happen at any time. On the other hand, the anonymous aspect of the project also unifies everyone who is photographed. Not disclosing their identity allows their voice to project, versus having the viewer concentrate on what the person looks like. This is just the beginning, I hope to photograph many more.
