The Feathered Serpent

Ā
The Animal CoĀ invitedĀ graphic artists toĀ dedicate their latestĀ piece to the animal they love the mostĀ to take part in their collective showcase of artistsĀ "The Species Project"Ā with only one rule: to design it in the exact form of theĀ AnimalĀ logo.
Ā
The Feathered SerpentĀ
Ā
The animal that I decided to illustrate is the powerful ā€œQuetzalcoatlā€, aĀ legendary Mesoamerican animalĀ deityĀ whose name comes from theĀ nahuatlĀ language that means ā€œthe feathered serpentā€ (this could be interpreted to be a dragon).
Ā
Once I took the task to give life to this ancient creature I wanted to come up with something colorful that could match the concept that I wanted for the illustration, so I became inspired by some fantastical creatures called ā€œalebrijesā€ which are brightly coloredĀ Mexican folk artĀ sculptures. The final composition is the result of combining the ideas already exposed with my illustration style & technique.
