Tonight’s opening showcases a truly personal set of images illustrating the birth ofKiss My Flash Photography. The show consists entirely of un-commissioned andexperimental works that marked Kat and Mause’s first collaborative endeavours. Asthey launched into figuring out their artistic identity together they chose to workalmost exclusively with non-professional models.
This work focuses on the body as a vehicle for expression and the camera as adocumentary force, which, in one breath, demands and greatly impedes authenticexpression. Using naïve models helped to amplify the processes surrounding self-expression for both photographers and models. For most people the process ofopening up to the camera is fraught with the overarching effects of our media-mind’s eye as we compare ourselves to glossy magazine covers. In the turmoil of self-appraisal it takes great courage to be honest not only believing but actually beingenough just as you are.
This body of work is a celebration of a string of such moments of honesty, immortalized for another few moments behind the lens.
