Fun with physics
• Being a physics student, I've learned the world is made entirely of fairies - and it is my sacred mission to document them all.
Enjoy fun fairies and some basic physics too.
• The Mechanical Forces Fairies - Forces are influences that cause a body to change its speed, direction or shape. This illustration includes gravity, though it's more of a nuclear force, and does not include the nuclear forces, the electro-magnetic force and the fictitious forces, that are planned for future illustrations :)
• Mechanical forces: The Gravity Fairy - gravity is mass-proportionate force of attraction among matter.
• Mechanical forces: The Normal Fairy - the normal force is the force between 2 objects that are in contact with each other, that prevents them from breaking each other's surfaces.
• Mechanical forces: The Elastic Fairy - the elastic force is what acts to return a spring to its natural length when stretched/squeezed.
• Mechanical forces: The Tension Fairy - tension is the pulling force exerted by a string/cable/something of that sort on another object.
• Mechanical forces: The Friction Fairy - friction is the force resisting the relative motion of material elements sliding against each other.
• Mechanical forces: The Drag Fairy - the drag force is what opposes the relative motion of an object through a fluid/liquid/gas. Unlike dry friction, which is nearly independent of velocity, drag forces depend on velocity (and also the matter in which the object moves).
• The Fictitious Forces Fairies: These forces are called fictitious because there is no physical interaction that actually triggers them. Here in the illustration are the fictitious forces of rotational movement, the centrifugal force and coriolis force.
• Fictitious forces: The Centrifugal Fairy -the centrifugal force is what pushes you away from the center of rotation when spinning, like on a carousel.
• Fictitious forces: Coriolis Fairy -the coriolis force is what pushes you aside when you're spinning on a carousel and stupidly try to move while doing so. It is renowned among physics students for pushing flies from spinning discs in various mechanical problems.
• The Quark Fairies - quarks are elementary particles that make up pretty much all matter(They are the constituents of the well known proton and neutron). quarks are never found in isolation but always in pairs or triplets, due to their peculiar nature. They have mass, spin, electric charge, color charge (can be either red, blue or green - as seen in the illustration) and "flavor", or name - the different types of quarks are called Up, Down, Strange, Charm, Top, Bottom.
• Quark Fairies: The Up-Down couplet.
• Quark Fairies: The Strange-Charm couplet.
• Quark Fairies: TheTop-Bottom couplet.
• The Electro-magnetic Fairy - electro-magnetism is one of the 4 fundamental forces. It causes interaction between electrically charged objects.
