There are many theatrical productions of Beauty and the Beast- from live adaptations of the popular Disney film, to classical and modern ballets and operas, and traditional British Pantomimes.
I was commissioned by the Theatre Royal Winchester in 2008 to create a number of special effects for their Christmas production. Part of the brief was a real floating rose which would be the powerful visual ingredient in the production that brings-to-life the central magical theme that underpins the story.
I researched extensively and as far as I could discover this had never been attempted before. Most productions rely on projection, and some have a physical rose standing in a vase or bell-jar. None are floating and able to shed petals on cue, or able to be picked up and handled by actors.
Here you will see the final product, of which the whole team and I are very proud.
