  • The DC Metro
    Information Design, Branding, Signage
  • The Metro in Washington DC is the nation’s second-largest heavy rail system, with 5 rail lines (and a sixth one under construction), about 106 miles of track and 86 stations. And that doesn't even include the bus system. Washington DC was officially founded back in 1790 and serves as the United States capital under the Constitution. The city is full of historical landmarks, unique tourist spots, and political buildings. Currently, the Metro system is used primarily by commuters both in DC and around Maryland and Virginia.

In this rebranding and information design project, my goal was to appeal to a new crowd - the visitors of Washington DC. I wanted the map to become much clearer and less cluttered, and brand the Metro so that it no longer looked like the New York City subway system. The map shows how easy it is to get to a variety of landmarks and points of interest throughout the area. Along with a map redesign, new Metro cards were developed as well as signage system.
