The Chaffey Review (Film & Music Promo)

2013 will see the Inaugural Chaffey Review Film Festival. The Chaffey Review, the official "literary" journal of Chaffey College in California, has recently taken its commitment to "celebrating artistic expression" to a new level. In addition to publishing poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and visual arts, the journal will now showcase film and music by "both established and emerging artists." What follows are the pieces I designed to promote & celebrate the journal's embrace of additional art forms.
This is the official poster for the Chaffey Review Film Festival, which is set to launch in early 2013. The festival coordinator asked for a vintage-inspired, b-movie sci-fi motif with apocalyptic undertones. I started with "Attack of the 50-ft. Woman" for inspiration, and replaced the gigantic woman with a robotic-legged (a tripod turned quadro-ped) old school film camera. One of my favorite parts of this piece is the doomsayer sporting the "CRFF Is Nigh" sign in the lower left area.
Here's an isolated view of the camera-spider. I started with a black line drawing; then, I duplicated the lines in red and white and pushed them to the left and right of the original black lines to create a pseudo-3D (or sloppy screen print) look. I filled the background in a solid color (in this case, white).
This character is inspired by Rorschack (aka Walter Joseph Kovacs) from the beginning of Alan Moore's "Watchmen".
These are mock-ups for a proposed film festival t-shirt.
This Facebook cover features elements from the CRFF poster.
This is a black & white version of the poster; it will not be printed. It'd make for a nice coloring book page, though.
This is the design for the Chaffey Review's 2nd Annual Film Festival (aka Revenge of the Chaffey Review Film Festival).

The following set of pics and posters are being used to promote The Chaffey Review's addition of "music submissions". feature original line drawings, colored in Warhol-inspired fashion. I used the primary colors found on the cover of The Clash's "Give 'Em Enough Rope" album cover. This is variation #1.
This is variation #2.
