The Burning House Zine

The Burning House Zine

I recently made a handbound, illustrated zine dealing with the question, "If your house was burning down, what would you save?"

It features four people, their objects and some close-ups. As a theme, I chose 'uncovering the truth or the true face of things', hence the surreal sundering of the portraits and some of the objects. These were inspired by the awesome Sachin Teng; he makes downright gnarly illustrations.

The normal, unsundered portraits were printed on opaque paper which were overlayed over the surreal portraits, to reinforce the idea of layers of meaning, or truth. The cover, which was left simple and monochrome, was lasercut to reveal parts of the illustration underneath, of spirit-like characters in a labyrinth-like space.
