My interpritation of Raymond Chandler's classic murder mystery novel The Big Sleep. This cover re-design is an entry for this years Penguin book design awards.
The main thing I found interesting from the novel was the highly detailed desciption of Chandlers writing, every single object in a room is described and no detail missed. I felt it important to make clear the time period the story was set on the front cover, almost like setting the scene. Throughout the book various murders take place, all to do with money in one way or another, taking the detailed nature of bank notes and Chandlers writing worked really effectivly. As well as the more obvious elements taken from the storyline I have added in finer details that may be missed, such as bullets, gun handles, chess boards and a chess piece
