My husband is a hunter and he recently got his coyote skin back from the taxidermy and it is now on display in our living room. The fur is beautiful and I think that it is what spurred my interest in creating this illustration.
My husband's family owns a deer farm and they are very aware of the growing coyote population. The growing population has also become more aggressive; a family friend of his was attacked by a coyote while out walking with his wife and small dog a couple years ago in northern Ontario. In 2009 a young woman was attacked and killed by two coyotes while out on a hike on the east coast of Canada. In light of these events I decided to change the big bad wolf to the big bad pack of coyotes - which I feel is a much more fitting bad guy for a Canadian version of Little Red Riding Hood.
