Part 1, In the Vineyard
Part 2, In the Cellar
Bourgneuf has been in the Vayron family since 1821, making it one of the oldest family properties in Pomerol. A nine hectare estate on the Pomerol plateau, the vineyards are situated on a single plot just west of Chateau Trotanoy, with a lovely view of LEglise Saint Jean-Baptiste. The terroir is a combination of micro-plots including deep gravel adjacent to Trotanoy, with clay and gravel down the plateau, all topping an iron-rich clay subsoil.
The vineyard is planted to 90% Merlot and 10% Cab Franc with 30-40 year old vines. 3,000-3,500 cases are produced annually.
Harvesting is entirely by hand. Wines are crafted using traditional concrete tanks and methods. After vinification, the wine is aged in a mix of new and prior vintage French oak barrels for two years before bottling.
