A book arts project, this piece was developed as an exploration of iconography, history, and personal associations with the idea of America. Positive and negative imagery and ephemera were used as this developed into a hanging museum of sorts, a roadmap of my personal prides and disappointments of my homeland. Sixteen handmade shadow boxes, bright graphic photos, hand-stitched elements and even live ammunition were included. Some boxes include "ghosted" phrases (newspaper headlines, folk songs, historical documents) on transparency overlays.
Approx. 22 x 26in. Materials: cardboard, plexiglass, paper, inkjet transparency, rifle bullets, monopoly houses, fabric, wood, x-acto blades, ribbon, metal curtain rods, pins & needles.
