Infinite Variations, an installation for TED 2012 Long Beach, sponsored by Genentech. Each TEDster was given a DNA sampling kit. On the cover was a personalized greeting and pin with a unique nickname based on genetic traits. TEDsters could pick the nickname they liked the best or thought most appropriate, and were then asked to give a sample of their DNA via cheek swab. The DNA was sequenced overnight by Genentech, and the results were used to create a genetic symphony. I came up with 752 different nicknames for the project.
