Super Future You is an innovative suite of applications Lightwell developed for the Think Ahead permanent exhibition at Scienceworks in Spotswood, Victoria. At the core of the experience is a Kinect-based interactive that allows visitors to add 3D models of hypothetical body augmentations to a real-time video stream of themselves. Visitors can try out rocket boots, wings, retractable hair, cybernetic brain implants, and over 25 other body enhancements. Once they have tested out their ideal selves and played a quick game, we capture an animated GIF of their experience for them to send on to their inboxes using an adjacent touchscreen. Very fun.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Software was developed in C++/Openframeworks. A tracking application was created which handles all face and limb tracking using the Microsoft Kinect SDK. This data is processed and output via OSC. The main visualisation application reads the OSC data and overlays 3D models and animations using the Assimp library over a high resolution camera feed from a Point Grey Flea3. The Flea3 camera input is pre-calibrated to the Kinect RGB image using another custom application.
