Steeple + Chase
Steeplechase: A horse race over a turf course furnished with artificial ditches, hedges and other obstacles over which the horses must jump; so called because in its origin [1795-1805] a rider kept his course by sighting a church steeple.

Steeple + Chase is an exploration of my past. The photos are from The Foxfield Races, a series of steeplechases set in the quiet, rolling hills outside Charlottesville, VA. College students come to the infield of the track to party. As a student I was amongst the most dedicated of revelers. When I returned after graduation, I observed with new eyes the general excess of the culture: the drinking, the trash, the sex. For years, I have returned to this field in search of memories.
