  • RISD Book & Paper Arts 2012
    Instructor: Suzi Cozzens
In an assignment to create a book using our own words and imagery, I chose to focus on one of my passions: the night sky. This book was printed on Japanese washi paper handmade by me at the Awagami Paper Factory in Tokushima, Japan. The imagery for this book was made with a hand-carved and letterpress printed linoleum block, the text was created by silkscreening.

I often forget to look up at the sky at night.
The stars are invisible in the city.
The moon is dulled by the street lamps.

It is only on the nights
when the moonlight is so bright,
    so interruptive,
    that I notice its presence.

    On those nights,
when the moonlight shines through my window,
    without making a sound,
    it distracts me from sleeping.

I often forget to look up at the sky at night.
