Calle 8 is both the most American of Cuban streets and the most Cuban of American streets. It is home to a unique community who needs to constantly adjust between different cultures. Insatiable travelers of this modern world, the people of Calle 8, remind us all of the permanence of our own culture and the sadness of a world gone. Nostalgic and lively while at the same time dramatic and funny. Calle 8 is a photographer's dream: an urban street where humanity fights back and thrives. This project will present a very familiar place, under diverse perspectives, as an essay. The idiosyncrasies of “Calle Ocho” will be explored beyond the clichés and prejudices. The intention is to explore the mythic essence about “Calle Ocho” – the people, politics, culture, and businesses through different media : photography, installation, painting, video, and sculpture.
