This project is concerned with our social class system operating within society and in particular the '1' percent of our global population.
A response to NextByDesign's call for posters relating to the Occupy movements worldwide, in which we are entering a year polarised by the '99' and '1' percent inequalities.
I wanted to create a poster that would address and express the concerns in an ironic and tongue 'n' cheek manner of some of today's central issues regarding our globalised society and ever growing divide between the '99' and '1' percent.
I decided to create an identity for the '1' percent within our globalised society. To do this I created a large banner of a modern coat of arms/crest for our times which was then hung in context and 'guarded with protection' at a castle owned by landed gentry in the UK. This then became the final solution to the poster.
The Identity/Poster highlights elements inherent within the '1' percent of our social class system which is influenced by issues of security, finance/banking, governance, secret societies, territory, authority and the values held by the 'established elite'.
Should we question what our future will hold if this divide in social class and wealth gets deeper and deeper with no immediate solutions to the growing concerns of the '99' percent. Are we heading towards a dangerous age governed by a totalitarian, authoritarian and powerful global elite who's only interest is to 'Protect and serve' themselves?
The banner reads 'The order of the 01' and 'Asinus Asinum Fricat' which translates from latin as 'The ass that rubs the ass'.
