I wanted to paint a distorted face, experimenting with
perception and distortion instead of pixelated camouflage as I often do in
other works. I imagined the way a child looks when she
smooshes her face against a car window and you are standing outside the car.
The main focus was abstract color, texture and composition, with the face
giving some structure and interest to the whole. I painted it with my
hands, in many layers, etching out the brighter colors from beneath darker
colors with my fingernail.
