1    Introduction:
The SMART-Sampler & Enhanced-Smart-Sampler cards are low cost, general-purpose ADC, DAC, GPIOs units. The unit can perform as an end point unit in a network or Point-to-Point configuration to a host computer (usually PC). It can also be used as stand alone unit.
The Sampling & IO Controller Unit can do the following tasks:
The unit can be operated in two independent methods:
The VRM-Application is a complete end-user-language, which gives the user the ability to customize the operation of the controller for Hard-Real-Time or stand alone applications.
The network option enables the user to scatter many units over a large area inside a structure or an outside field and have reliable control over them.
The two methods can be combined together to make a unique solution, which combines stand-alone controllers, running VRM-Applications for Hard-Real-Time control, which can be monitored and operated remotely over the network for soft-Real-Time control needs.
The basic remote commands that the unit respond to are based on the System-Monitor-Protocol 2 and they are:
All of the unit's functions, RAM & Flash are mapped as registers that can be read / write remotly
In addition to remote command control-interface and VRM-Application, the unit can be configured to perform periodic tasks such as ADC, PWM capturing/generating and sending the results over the network to the host computer. In this case the unit transmits its data in Raw-Data-Protocol 3 in order to increase the data-efficiency of the communication line.
The unit configuration is based entirely on memory write cycles to relevant configuration registers as specified farther on this document. The data can be read manually by read commands from relevant memory addresses or by configuring the unit to automatic transmission (as mentioned previously)
