I was art director on the award winning sequel to The Sims.  I was tasked with making The Sims new, fresh, and yet still look like The Sims.  I designed and directed hundreds of clothing lines, architectural styles, cars, etc.  The styles needed to run the gambit from ordinary to extreme so that the player could play their characters in their world.  They needed to be able to tell their story.
