During RISD's five-week long wintersession this year, I took a fabric silkscreen course and had the opportunity to learn silkscreen and dying techniques, using a repeating pattern.
My first pattern is inspired by a carved column from Hadrian's Villa, and was created by printing real ivy leaves in india ink on acetate. The second pattern is a constellation map, and is printed in glow-in-the-dark ink. I experimented with different dying techniques, from basic one color, to hand painting, and finally to discharging and table dying.
All the fabrics are each 45" x 3 yards.
