I feel really lucky to be asked to work on this project.
The extremely talented Shyann is a personal friend who I grew up with and over the years I've been blessed to watch her grow into the artist she is today.
After years of hard work, she finally started working on her first solo release. After some setbacks, she informed me that the project was ready and she wanted to involve me with it, creatively. Initially, I was asked to do some cuts and scratches on the album but I declined - I know my strengths :)
Roughly a year later, late one night, I received a text message saying she needed my help and really wanted me to be a part of the final parts of this release. So after some texting back and forth and a couple of phone conversations we began work on the release party flyer which would be used for web and print.
I recall Shyann saying she wanted something rough, rugged/ distressed, yet clean and pleasing to the eye. I requested all of her existing creative (the existing CD cover, previous promotional flyers and professional photos that had been done) and set off to work. Did I mention the 48 hour deadline? :)
Late the first night, we went through some creative layout attempts and various font choices. Once I had a greater idea of how she wanted to be projected, I sent her off to bed and told her to check her email in the morning. The end result is what you see here. At the end of it all, a colour and greyscale master set was delivered in various sizes for media outlets, as well as a Facebook cover banner and a couple of desktop backgrounds for herself as well as her fans to get their hands on.
Although this was done under the gun, it was one of the easiest client creative relationships I've ever encountered.
