    Senior Book Design Project
  • This is my Senior Graphic Design Project. The goal was to design a book on a topic of our choosing. I didn't know what the book would be about until our Professor announced the official date of the Senior Graphic Design Show: Friday, May 13. There were several complaints from a couple of classmates, but not from me. I was surprised and excited, because unlike for most people, I believe the number thirteen brings me luck. I was born on December 13, and throughout my life I've had important unplanned events and moments happen, coincidentally, on the 13th day of some month.

Immediately after the announcement, I thought it would make a great topic for my book. It was a subject I had always been interested in and curious to find more about. The overall feel of the book is informational and educational. It explores the different domains and cultures where the number thirteen is not necessarily seen as lucky or unlucky, but important nonetheless. I chose to dedicate a specific color to each section to keep it fresh and lively even though it is an informational book. I created the case and book binding myself. It was a surprisingly difficult process, and since it was my first time ever binding a book, I definitely learned a lot about the technique.

    The book was
on display in the School of Art Building at George Mason University from May 9 to May 13 (Reception). Go to website.
