I recently asked one of my calligraphy suppliers about the new Asian Brush line she had started carrying. She was kind enough to let me select a few to try out for her. This is the first of the series so far. I won't go into a detailed analysis as yet, but will say a bit about these images. First off… I do work for reproduction so I allowed myself the latitude to cut and paste lettering. I even added a bit of color and texture to a few images. What I did not do is delve into retouching letters as I would do for a commercial job. I felt it was important to show actual brush strokes that can be produced with the brushes. Most of the lettering was done on either sketch paper or Arches text wove. A few were done on tracing vellum which is smooth and non porous. Paper does make a big difference.
