  • See-Saw is a self initiated educational event as part of Sydney Design Week 2010.

The Sydney Design 2010 theme was “Tell Us a Story”. Students were asked to explore/experiment with the process of story telling in their design discipline, by embracing the fundamental design materials, processes and concepts. Each group was carefully selected to represent 4 design education institutions: Billy Blue College of Design, University of Technology Sydney, College of Fine Arts UNSW, and the Design Centre Enmore.

In responding to each specific discipline’s brief, each group were asked to complete a representation of a “functional” design. The installation of the design needed to demonstrate the hypothetical broader context that the mock-up resided within.

Each group was given a pack consisting of papers, tape, pens, paint, and other basic equipment that comprises every designers toolkit. There was no technology available whilst executing the brief in order to focus on design thinking.

Each group was assigned a mentor specific to their discipline to help guide them along the way, with the development live streamed onto the adjoining gallery wall to give the audience a better understanding of their processes and execution.
