Insight
Amon Tobin is a Brazilian electronic musician and DJ currently signed to the influential Ninja Tune record. Amon Tobin is especially famous for his sampling and complex layered music and has produced several albums as well as composed music for film and computer games. The track “Searchers” is a dark and mysterious instrumental piece containing an enormous amount of samples, characters and references.
Challenge
The task was to enhance the audience’s experience of the track “Searchers” by Amon Tobin. The challenge was to capture the atmosphere and the mood of the track and transform the essence into an intriguing visual story preserving the mystery and linking the events in the music to the events in the story created.
Solution
By carefully analysing and interpreting the track I transformed the atmosphere and the mood of the track into a surreal story about a human falling through different states of mind and music while encountering different characters represented by the sounds and events in the track. The human was something the audience could relate to in a strange world – a perfect guide for enhancing the experience of the track. I made sure to preserve the mystery reflected in the track by forcing the audience to question the humans fate while falling towards a definitive ending – is he being born, dying or is he just dreaming.
