Sea Ways is my contribution to 'The Art of Superstition', an exhibition I curated representing the work from 40 members of Illustrators Ireland. The exhibition opened at The Copper House Gallery, Dublin in 2013.
My piece examines maritime superstitions and traditions from Irish and Scottish fishing communities.
Conceptually I developed an old world feel in the artwork, using a controlled palette and utilising ageing textures including hints of linocut and wood block printing. There are several omens represented in the illustration, from seadogs, redheads and clergymen to spilt blood and forbidden words...
