One of my first opportunities at Discovery was to contribute to the large scale re-branding project for Science Channel. A central part of the project was to create a new logo that conveyed the same mystery and wonder of science.
So much of the design in the science world stems from a design language that borrows more from human attempts to contain and classify science such as the periodic table or molecule models rather than looking to the infinite mystery science still holds. I abandoned all that with a mysterious, shape shifting logo that, just as science, is more unknown than known. This was an incredibly fun project with a very trusting client.
