With a lineup of artists hitting almost every music genre possible, it's hard to believe they call it the "Jazz Fest". For their 25th anniversary, we set out to reinvent and redesign the festival by moving them in a more energetic direction; one that was paired tighter with sound and experience. Rich, and filled to the edge with a bold clash of typographic details, pattern and color, this year's materials embraced a spontaneity and energy unlike any year before.
Typographically, dynamic lockups of bold and informative text framed and shaped the pages of each piece, allowing the juxtaposition of type and image to move the viewers eye in both rhythmic and spontaneous ways.
A bold pattern of vibration, used in different ways throughout the series of pieces, was established as an anchor to the Festival's location and a subtle reference to musical reverberation. The Saskatchewan Jazz Festival takes place along the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, Canada during the final days of June and early days of July. In the evenings along the river, as the shows heat up, crowds are treated to beautiful sunsets over calm, reflecting river waters.
Design pieces within the system included main festival poster, individual artist posters, corporate sponsor posters, all access and VIP lanyards, pocket program, 48-page full show information and guide booklet, iphone app design, billboard signage templates, website design elements, TV spot and other various promotional leave behinds and pieces.
