Final resolution for a live brief which asked to design a poster for the screening of Santa Sangre at The Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds. The film is focused on strange visuals and emotional scenes of difficult or controversial topics.
I chose to use the symbolic reference to the crow which is shown flying through the streets where the film is set. The crow flies around and rests at the circus where most of the film is based.
Instead of using intense colour and visuals such as vectors or rough illustrations of all the visuals within the film to represent the feel, I chose to make an understated poster that relies on body copy to draw an interest from the audience.
I also took into consideration that the poster would not be printed in high quality by the client therefore I chose to keep the flat colour Key and use the grey stock of 140GSM card as the texture. The poster was printed on the grey card then scanned in and submitted. When printed by the client the texture would appear as a simple un-comprimised background effect instead of needing a high quality reproduction.
