Sanctuary
- Sanctuary
I wanted an image...one aspect which, had I the wit to perceive it, would convey the strange character of the place, one image which, in its form, would contain the individual spirit... I watched and waited. Paul Nash
In the year 673 AD the Irish monk Maelrubha founded a Christian settlement on the peninsula now known as Applecross on the west coast of Scotland. He declared that the surrounding area be known as A'Chomraich - The Sanctuary.
The images in this series have been produced in response to a particular location on the West coast of Scotland and represent work in progress. However, they are not intended to be 'about' this location, rather the aim here is to work towards a series of images which might suggest a personal narrative or hint at a real or imaginary history.
