Our Bodyguard, Hernando.
Our Tourguide, Gerrit.

Witty, intellligent and friendly guy, who tried to make the best out of the situation.

When I arrived in La Paz and I first heard about a (real) prison you could visit I couldn´t quite believe it. I hesitated if I want to visit a prison like I visited zoo's as a kid. But curiosity prevailed, and I didn't regret going inside. Because in the end, it was not just an interesting experience, it was a 'win win' if you want to call it that way. Of course, the bribed guards benefitted the most, but the inmates are also making a living selling toys, cakes and what not.
If you want to learn more about the Prison i recommend reading "marching powder" from Rusty Young, a former inmate who came up with the whole "tourguide-idea". You can even  find it on "lonely planet" btw.
