  • To design a low cost handy portable device for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) to assists themincorporate rural people (mostly females and children) into Village Health Plan
  •  Project Brief
  •  National Rural Health Mission
  • The national rural health mission (2005-12) seeks to provide effective health care to the rural population throughout the country with special focus on 18 states, which have weak public health indicators and/or weak infrastructure.
One of the key components of the National Rural Health Mission is to provide every village in the country with a trained female community health activist called Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA).The ASHA will be an interface between the Community and the public health system.
  •  Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA)
  • Required Qualification of ASHA : 1) She must be a resident of same village
                                                         2) Minimum education 8th pass / literate enough to read and write
ASHA will have to undergo a series of training episodes to acquire desired skills and necessary knowledge.

    - She will be the first port of call for any health related demands.
    - She would be a promoter of good health practices
    - She will mobilize the community and make them aware of the Health facilities and services provided by    Government Health care centers and Primary Health Centers.

  •  What is SAHARA ?
  • After having the detailed understanding of the lifestyle of ASHA and her tasks and responsibilities, a thought came up of a product which could help her and reduce her task. Currently there are few ASHA workers who have started using mobiles for communication with doctors and midwives. So thought is tha,t as they are familiar with the electronic devices, why not provide them with a cheap tablet which would be meant only for these ASHA workers. These tablets can be provided to them by National Rural Health Mission. The tablet will assist ASHA in registering, keeping records and reminders, thus making her job easy. Hence the name ‘Sahara’ .
