STARGATE CUSTOM THEMED CINEMA

The brief from the client was..A sense of mystery and movement,a mixture of Sci Fi and ancient civilisations..

The Stargate cinema was born,from conceptual design to authenticity and accuracy of key elements, the goal was to ensure that everything was a feast for the eyes aesthetically, and a feast for the eyes and ears visually and aurally.

As a cinema built on Cinema360 principles that encapsulate not only THX and ISF integrity and values,but also adherance to total synergy of correct kit,the skill was to blend both together but avoid that *theme park* look ..

Subtelty was key,unison of lighting,motorisation and accuracy of the *Stargate*,sequential planning of the systems operation was paramount..The Egyptian concept of as above,so below was incorporated by a star pit that the front seats will *float* in,echoing the fibre optic star ceiling,muralled to look beautiful on or off..mysterious blue accent lighting was chosen to illuminate the side columns,rear panel and front pillars...

The sand coloured suede panels have been stitched together to resemble the ancient blockwork of Karnak temple in Egypt,the hieroglyphic panels conceal equipment and have been sand filled to increase the weight to give an authentic stone feel and finish..

The maroon colour is also taken from the Egyptian maroon colur and mixed to be as close as possible...the front lights ..like little black searchlights at the fromt of the columns fire up from the star pit and bathe the columns in eerie blue light...

The kit will include a Sony VPL VW95ES 3d projector ,9ft wide 2.35.1 aspect curved 3d acoustic screen,a Cinema 360 media server and blu ray player,Klipsch THX Ultra 2 sound system and Onkyo 5009 amp and processor...the speaker setup is 9.1 channels.. all operable from a customised IPAD2 with custom star screens ..

Press movie on...and the star ceiling activates,moves to the designated position ..the abyss in the center opens,side blue lights come on and the system defaults to the movie server to choose the movie you want to watch...

Seating will be custom built maroon leather electronic recliners..

We`ve had to drill right into the ceiling and create support for the heavy THX speakers!

Authentic maroon colour mixed to echo the maroon in Egyptian temple of Karnak....sandstone doorway..with tunnel effect and sloping floor incline like the pyramids.

Back wall smoothed ready for maroon velvet and hieroglyphic panels..note how perfectly smooth the plasterer has got the finish to avoid any *pits/bulges* in the material.**Note completed THX baffle wall ready for speakers..

Maroon velvet backed by acoustic foam,double stitched to avoid *joins*..note cream panels on right.

Various shots of the acoustic inch thick suede panels,specially constructed to look like one huge panel and resemble eqyptian block work with the grooves in between the panels...

One of 2 Hieroglyphic panels in the foyer,each weighing about 30kilos and one of which is a false door hiding the equipment and cabinet and industrial air con system for the house hidden above the cabinet.

ALL of the pictures cannot capture the accurate sandstone colour of the foyer and cinema embellishments..

One of the two columns for the cinema,these will have sandstone bases and are not quite as shiny as they appear in the pics..real Egyptian columns were a tad gaudy,so these elements have been selected carefully to balance the starkness of the sandstone..

Part of the painted fibre optic star ceiling,which in reality has been painted to create a 3 dimensional feel and to ensure the ceiling looks as great turned off as it does on!

Speaker grills now in sandstone...

Blue mood lighting added...

9ft wide curved acoustic transparent 3d,2.35.1 ratio screen for a real immersive experience..

Another great shot to see the column detail,,and look at the suede panels on the right..look how similar they look to ancient blockwork...its these little details that can make all the difference!

For the aesthetics,just the carpet needed now..and of course the Stargate for the ceiling..

And here it is,many weeks of work already,each symbol machine carved,39 of them ,the same as in the movie..this is a scale replica with 9 chevrons..of course need to add the perspex to the chevrons and lights,then paint a mettalic bronze to symbolise ancient machinery...this is the only *change* from the movie,in the movie the Stargate originally entered was a grey colour,the exit Stargate..a sandstone colour...this Stargate is one of the inter dimensional ones which was sandstone/bronze.....and of course the center piece which will be painted perspex with a light projector sunk into the ceiling to create the watery void...the inner ring will move via a motor and the chevrons line up with the symbol to *open* the stargate..and turn on the lights..the opening of the Stargate will happen before the system turns on...

Who could have thought that a HUGE industrial HVAC system could be hidden within the ceiling and accessed from behind the fyer hieroglyphic panel that has an opening hatch above the equipment cabinet! The ONLY evidence in the ceiling is the bottom right hand vent-designed by Projectiondreams to go back to the main unit..
