SQUARE MILE COFFEE ROASTERS
The brief:
We were approached to create branding, packaging and an e-commerce site for Square Mile Coffee Roasters, a wholesale coffee roasters in East London.
Founded by James Hoffmann (World Barista Champion 2007) and Anette Moldvaer (World Coffee Cup Tasting Champion 2007), Square Mile Coffee Roasters are a wholesale coffee roasters based in East London.
The project:
We worked with James and Annette in researching the beginnings of English coffee houses in the 17th century. On discovering that the some of the first London coffee houses were actually the birth places of institutions like Lloyds, the Stock Exchange and the Bankers Clearing House, we were inspired to look to at the Square Mile itself – the ancient heart of London’s financial business.
When we saw the stone statues of griffins that surround the Square Mile we thought they would be an ideal icon for Square Mile Coffee Roasters. For the type treatment we sourced original wood blocks to help achieve a vintage edge – a further nod to the length of the relationship between London and coffee.
We implemented this identity across a webshop, teaser campaign, stationery and packaging.
