What can I say? Sony loaned me a VPL VW1000ES for demo to eval and ill put this simply....this is the best consumer projector i have ever seen..stunning upscaling means that all your blu rays take on a new lease of life at the 4096 x x 2160p resolution-4 x the resolution of traditional HD.
The 2,000 Ansi Lumens brightness is awesome and means that even in 3d ..this is a bright projector,the portrayal of blacks exceeded that of ANY other consumer projector I have seen and gave a sense of depth-that coupled with the upscaling to 4k meant something really special..and my god..the details in everything were there for all to see...it was like sensory overload after I setup and watched..I was still reeling an hour later..even Mrs Myers was stunned...Dr Bourne my Custom Install Manager was so excited he cancelled his date!!..in fact,I think hes forgotten about women for ever..:-)
It was an absolute breeze to setup,the presets were real good and with a little bit of tweaking,i wound up with a stunning picture,very close to D65 but punched up a little.
For the second time in 15 years I am really excited about a video projector,the only other time was when I first setup a Sony G90 crt projector-many moons ago now...
..But I shouldnt be surprised,Sony are the kings of digital 4k projection in the commercial cinema world..and here?..well,they are just showing off..:-)....The lens is practically twice the size of its nearest competitor,the aesthetic of the projector is out of this world with a granite like graphite grey coupled with a piano gloss black....the remote is beautifully laid out and so simple..
Have I seen anything come close to this pic?..no...does it matter that there is no true 4k content yet..no..because the upscaling to 4k is the best I have ever seen..no artifacting at all..NO crosstalk in 3d mode..nothing....sharp..yet easy on the eyes..not fatiguing...
The team at Sony that put this together are GENIUS`S...a big thank you for Jaime Bento of Sony for his enthusiasm to loan us this...I shall repay him by selling as many as I can..and I think it will be verrry easy..:-)
Below,are some screenshots I took with an old Fujitsu camera..no tripod..at a resolution of no higher than 2550 x 1185...so these shots dont tell the full story,,they are maybe 50% as good as what I saw...it was like being there...Ive never felt that before....ever...
The shots were on a 2.35.1 ratio curved 8ft wide screen,but really thats small for what this projector can do...I would go with a 10ft wide screen for optimum..
So..heres the pics from Zulu..let them tell the story better than I can..oh..and a brief video of the lens cover in action..heck this is like curtains opening and closing over the feature..great..:-)..so cool!!..
